Wikipedia authorities in India summoned for linking Arsdeep Singh name to Khalistan

India's Ministry of Information Technology (IT) has summoned company officials for altering national cricketer Arsdeep Singh's profile on his Wikipedia page. According to news agency Reuters, a government source told them on Monday that fast bowler Arsdeep Singh's page was linked to a Sikh separatist movement after Sunday's match between Pakistan and India.

It should be noted that on Sunday Arshad Singh was heavily criticized on Indian social media when he dropped the catch of Mohammad Asif in the Asia Cup match against Pakistan and India lost the match by five wickets. According to a Reuters report, Arshad Singh's Wikipedia page was altered to read that the Sikh cricketer, who was born in the Indian state of Punjab, has been selected to play for 'Khalistan'.

In a statement, Wikimedia, the organization that runs Wikipedia, told Reuters that the "misleading comments were removed from the page within minutes." On the social media campaign, Arsdeep Singh's mother had earlier told The Indian Express that her son would silence critics with his performance.
