In India a farmer cut off his tongue to please the goddess

A farmer in India has cut off his tongue to please a goddess at a temple. According to the French news agency AFP, panic spread among the crowd after a 40-year-old man cut out his tongue at a famous temple in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh on Saturday. Police officer Abhilash Tiwari told AFP that the man and his wife had previously performed religious rituals and then took out a knife and cut off his tongue and placed it at the temple door. Abhilash Tiwari said, with the help of people, he was rushed to the hospital."

Tiwari added that the wife told the police that her husband had 'sacrificed' his tongue to please the goddess but could not explain it further. Mutilation of one's body parts and sometimes 'sacrificing human life' is a big problem in India, where a large section of the population holds superstitious beliefs.

Sometimes people there do strange things to please the gods. It should be noted that at least two such incidents were reported in two Indian states last year when two men in their 20s cut off their tongues and offered them to the gods. In 2020, a Hindu priest beheaded a local farmer and offered it as a sacrifice. This Bachari claimed that he had a dream that a god asked him to do this.
