Three Indian Air Force officers were sacked for 'accidentally' firing missiles in Pakistan's territory

The Indian government has suspended three Indian Air Force officers following an investigation into the 'accidental' firing of a BrahMos missile into Pakistani territory.

According to the Indian news channel NDTV, the government has informed about the dismissal of these officers of the Indian Air Force on Tuesday.

The Indian Air Force has said in its statement that the BrahMos missile was accidentally fired on March 9, 2022. A court of inquiry set up to ascertain the facts of the case, including determining responsibility for the incident, found that deviation from standard operating procedures (SOPs) led to the accidental firing of the missile by the officers.

According to the statement, these three officers have been held primarily responsible for the incident. The central government has terminated its services with immediate effect. Dismissal orders have been issued to the officers on 23 August 22.

It should be noted that on March 10 this year, the spokesman of the Pakistani army, Major General Babar Iftikhar, said that on March 9, an object (missile) had fallen in Pakistan's territory.

Later, on March 12, Pakistan's Foreign Office said in a statement that "this kind of serious matter cannot be resolved by a simple explanation from the Indian authorities."

The statement further said that "Pakistan demands a joint investigation into the matter so that the facts of the incident can be revealed."

After Pakistan protested the incident, the Indian Ministry of Defense confirmed that one of its missiles had landed in Pakistani territory on Wednesday this week due to a 'technical fault'.

A missile was accidentally fired due to a technical glitch during routine maintenance. A notice has been taken of the incident and a high-level inquiry has been ordered.
